Last week, the students (and staff) of Northcross Intermediate School embraced the many languages that are spoken in and around our school. The week long celebrations were in conjunction with NZ National Language week. Students were reminded that NZ is home to over 160 languages and many varied and exciting cultures. Each day, students were encouraged to speak a different language and were given the chance to win great prizes by translating phrases such as C'è uno scoiattolo sulla mia testa. Friday was a chance for the whole school to celebrate. Students and staff dressed in costumes that represented a country that spoke a language other than English or te reo Maori. As food is also an important part of the culture of many countries, students also shared a lunch with an international theme. The day ended with an assembly where the best dressed were recognised and rewarded. A great day was had by all.
