Our Y8 Boys’ Football team recently continued the successful legacy of past teams when they went on to win the final at the Auckland Boys’ Football Tournament. With four convincing wins in pool play (one of those a 4-2 win against a very strong Kings College side) the NX team made it through to a semi-final against Glen Eden, winning the match 2-0.
The Northcross boys stepped it up even further in the final against Auckland Normal, their teamwork was outstanding and they dominated on attack and defense, winning the game 3-0 with goals from Max Hall (penalty shot), Kodai Terada and Morgan Wainhouse. A number of spectators commented that the NX team played some of the best flowing football they had seen from a Y8 side. Over the tournament day the team had scored 28 goals with only 2 conceded. Special mention must go to Jimmy McDermott for his captaincy on and off the field and to Kodai Terada who was unstoppable with ball at feet, scoring over 10 goals. The team are much deserved 2023 Auckland Champions.
Thanks must go to Nathan Cranney for his time, effort and fantastic coaching skills. A big shout out too to all the parents and grandparents who were such positive supporters.
