In the first week of term, we were pleased to be able to welcome all our Year 7 students, new to Northcross Year 8 students and new staff, parents and Whanau to Northcross. The welcome is not strictly speaking a true powhiri, but we do respect certain aspects of kawa and tikanga and this is very important for the kaupapa of the school. The start of the new year signals to us all that this is a new beginning, with everyone assembled with fresh hopes and aspirations. A thank-you to Mrs Rameka for leading the manuhiri onto the covered dome as the year 8 kapa haka issued a karanga. Next we heard from various staff including a welcome from Mr Jensen and Principal Mr Tredray followed by a reply from Mr Hohaia. The sharing of food is part of the tikanga, signifying us coming together as a full school. All students enjoyed a crisp fresh apple or a biscuit.
Welcome to Northcross!
