The New Zealand public school system operates on a zoning basis. If you reside within our school zone, you will still need to enrol, however your acceptance at Northcross Intermediate is guaranteed.

Our Enrolment Process

In-zone students

We request that all in-zone students fill in their application form by the end of August the year before starting (2024 date to be advised). This assists with our planning for the upcoming academic year and informs the number of spaces available for out-of-zone applicants.

Applicants are required to provide two documents (such as a utility bill) that show the students usual place of residence is within the school zone.

Out-of-zone students

Out-of-zone enrolments for 2024 have now closed.

Out-of-zone students must fill in an application prior to the ballot date. This date will be published closer to the time, but generally all enrolments should be submitted by August the year before starting.

The exact number of spaces available for out-of-zone students is dependent on the number of students enrolling who live with-in the school zone. 

Should the number of out-of-zone applications exceed available spaces, students will be selected via a ballot. Parents will be notified of the outcome within three – five school days of the ballot closing.

Ballot Priorities

  1. Will be given to applicants who are siblings of 2023 Year 7 students.
  2. Will be given to applicants who are siblings of former students.
  3. Will be given to any applicant who is a child of a former student of the school.
  4. Will be given to applicants who are children of board employees.

What happens next

After the ballot has been complete (usually in early September) all in-zone students and successful out-of-zone students are sent confirmation of their enrolment with a link to a Google form where they share information about their child.

Before the end of the school year, generally mid December families are sent an email with their students class for the next year, how to book an interview for the start of the year as well as stationery and uniform information.

We begin each year at Northcross with a 10-minute interview. The interview takes place between you, your child and the classroom teacher.
