Principal’s Message

Kia ora Parents and Whānau

As we come to the end of Term 2, we gather as a community to celebrate Matariki, the Māori New Year. The appearance of the Matariki star cluster is a deeply significant time for us all; a time to reflect on the year that has passed, celebrate the present, and look forward to the future with purpose. It is a time for whānau, remembrance, and growth, which reflects the learning journey our students have been on over the last ten weeks.

We have had an incredibly productive term where our students have continued to excel through the breadth and depth of our Intermediate curriculum. From the arts and technology to advanced academics, our students have again accepted the challenge and thrown themselves into every opportunity offered, demonstrating the resilience and determination that truly defines our school motto, ‘Individual Growth through Challenge and Learning’.

In our last Beacon/Ramarao, we acknowledged our Future Problem-Solving Team heading to the world championships in America. We are very proud to share that Northcross Intermediate achieved 2nd place in this prestigious world event—a phenomenal testament to our students’ critical thinking and global competitiveness. Closer to home, our students dominated local academic arenas, winning both the regional Mathex competition and the regional literacy Book Battle.

Our talented arts and dance groups have also been thriving, representing our school and competing exceptionally well in recent local showcases. Their dedication, stage presence, and teamwork have been great to watch, reflecting our school’s commitment to the performing arts.

Bake Sale Fundraisers

This dedication extends well beyond the school gates, with our students showing a deep commitment to the wider community. An example of this was our Kapa Haka group, who recently brought both joy and a rich cultural experience to the residents at the Fairview Aged Trust with a special performance. Additionally, a huge congratulations to Joshua, Nathan, Meilun, and Genesis, who independently organised bake sales to raise vital funds for medical and dental supplies to support a village in Tonga. These initiatives truly embody the empathy and citizenship we strive to nurture in our students.

Our last day of Term 2 is this Friday 3rd July, with Term 3 starting on Monday 20th July. Thank you for your continued support throughout the term. Have a safe, happy, and relaxing holiday break with your whānau.

Important dates

  • School reports on parent portal 3rd July.
