From 10–14 June, a group of Northcross students travelled to Indiana University Bloomington, USA, to compete at the Future Problem Solving (FPS) International Conference.
Northcross was represented by three Global Issues Problem Solving (GIPS) teams, coached by Glenis Martin, and one FPS Creative Writing competitor from the ILC programme, coached by Janine Joyce. In the GIPS competition, teams of four are given a future scene and two hours to work through the FPS six-step problem-solving process. The Creative Writing competition requires students to write an original narrative based on a future scenario. Glenis also coached an alumni team of former Northcross students, now in Year 10, who competed in the Middle Division.
Our Junior Division team of Evelyn Hu, Jacqueline Zhang, Sarah Wei and Chloe Tang placed 2nd in the world. Vivian Wu placed 3rd in the world in the Middle Division Creative Writing competition.
A huge thank you to Glenis Martin for the time, energy and commitment she puts into the FPS programme each year. The success of our students is a reflection of the many hours she invests in coaching teams and preparing them for the competition. Glenis Martin, Jill Haslam and Janine Joyce accompanied the students to the United States and supported them throughout the conference.
