NX Powhiri 2025

Our Northcross Kapa Haka welcomed new Year 7’s, teachers and whanau to our school with their Karanga. Māori are tangata whenua, the indigenous people of Aotearoa New Zealand, and are traditionally the first voices heard when groups are meeting. After the karanga, Mr Jensen also welcomed everyone with a korero that acknowledged forests and all creatures that are part of the kaupapa of the schools’ treasured waharoa. Mrs Rameka answered on behalf of the manuhiri – linking us to all who have gone before. Principal Mr Tredray and Mr Hohaia further welcomed everyone before food was shared and the Kapa Haka sang a concluding waiata.

Mr Jensen welcomes all Tamariki to come along to Kapa Haka practises during term 1 to see if it is a group they would like to be part of in 2025. The group is already rehearsing a new waiata Purerehua – Butterfly.

Kua ma te waewae tutiki, engari ma te upoko pakaru.

Do not turn back because of minor obstacles but press ahead to the desired goal.
