We’ve had a number of orienteering events since the start of the term.
North Island Secondary School Champs
Over ANZAC weekend, 25 students attended the North Island Secondary School Champs, a 3-day event held in South Auckland. Students competed in a short course, long course, and relay event. The first two days had ideal running conditions but the weather really packed in for the relays with visibility on the course almost impossible. We had our best individual results on the 2nd day with Blair Corkery placing 2nd in the standard long course and Lucas Deng placing 3rd in the same event. At the end of the competition, NX placed 5th overall in the Year 7/8 boys division and 10th overall in the girls division.
Auckland Relay Championships (photo top of page – the NX Team)
On Tuesday 6th May, 54 orienteering students travelled to Riverhead Forest for the Auckland Relay Championships. NX had the largest entry by far with 18 teams of 3 in attendance. We were lucky to have a fine, warm day however, the ground underfoot was rather muddy! The course proved difficult for those new to forest orienteering; we still obtained over ten sub-20 minute times. Top results of the day included a 3rd place for Team 11 (Keddy Gong, Adam Huang, Danil Taran), and 5th place for both Team 4 (Naia Carson Neufeld, Nadia Corkey, Olivia Zhang) and Team 10 (Blair Corkery, Lucas Deng, Viggo Karlsson). Blair had the 3rd fastest individual time while Keddy and Naia had the 4th fastest.
Orienteering Inter Zone Day
On Wednesday 14th May, 27 students attended the Orienteering Inter Zone Day at Massey Football Club. We had three teams and one individual competing; the conditions were ideal for fast times. Once again, NX came away with some great results.
