Outstanding results for NX Orienteers

2025 Auckland Orienteering Individual Championships

On Thursday 22nd May, 17 students along with 5 parents and 2 staff made the 2 hour journey to Waiuku Forest for the Individual Champs. It was a fine but rather chilly day as the sunshine did not make it over the top of the trees. Despite the cold, our NX students proved once again that they are amongst the best in the Auckland region.

Top 10 placings in the Year 7/8 Girls Division included Rachel Rodney in 2nd, Dorothy Leung in 4th, and Naia Carson Neufeld in 7th. Within the Year 7/8 Boys Division, NX took out 6 of the top 10 placings with Blair Corkery in 1st, Keddy Gong 2nd, Harry Smith 3rd, Danil Taran 5th, Benji Boyle 6th, and Adam Huang 10th.

Auckland Schools Rogaine Championships 2025

On Sunday 8th June, 33 students travelled to Muriwai to compete in the Auckland Schools Rogaine Championships. ‘Rogaining’ is different to traditional orienteering in which teams of two have to locate as many controls as they can within a 90 minute period, much like a giant treasure hunt. Controls have different point levels depending on their location; points are deducted if teams do not return within their time limit.

On the day, there were over 600 people in attendance due to both the school and public event running concurrently. The conditions were cold but fine with varying terrain underfoot. NX had 14 teams and 5 individuals competing. In the Year 7 & 8 Boys Division, two teams placed in the top ten with Rory Bassett and Theo Benjamin Callan coming in 8th, and Harry Smith and Benji Boyle taking out first place. Top ten placings in the boys individuals included Yeonjun Moon in 7th and Robert Chen in 8th. In the Year 7 & 8 Girls Division, both teams placed in the top ten with Cynthia Gu and Kaitlyn McCarty coming in 10th, and Dorothy Leung and Rachel Rodney coming in 4th. Naia Carson Neufeld achieved 6th place in the girls individual. Another successful orienteering event for Northcross.
