Massive Music Month at Northcross

Over the last few weeks, our music department was treated to a number of guest performances to inspire our young musicians.

Captivating Drum Show
Strike! Percussion, the long-standing NZ drumming group (perfrorming for over 30 years) put on an amazing high energy show for our performing arts students. Strike! Percussion is a tohunga in our New Zealand music history, featuring some of our best-known percussionists and musicians who bring a mix of musical influences – Pacific, classical and contemporary. The show also included some entertaining moments featuring some Northcross volunteers, both teachers and students.

Polished Performances from Premier College Bands
Westlake Girls and Boys brought their premier bands to Northcross to perform for many of our students who are involved in the school’s music programme. These renowned college ensembles included the following; the Westlake Big Band, Westlake Symphony Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra (a premier strings-focused group featuring highly skilled musicians from both schools). Our Northcross students were amazed by the variety of instruments and by the exceptional caliber of musicianship.

Guest NZ Rocker
Mikey Havoc, NZ rock superstar, radio DJ, and TV host, spoke to our RockPOP Band students about stage presence, writing original music, and collaborating with bandmates. Students were given the chance to ask questions and received valuable advice about the music world.

Next term, our Northcross musicians look forward to performing in the Kids Sing, Bandquest, and for the Year 6 visitors. More information about these performances will follow in the coming week.
