General Info
Kia ora and welcome to the start of another exciting rugby season for 2024!
A big NX greeting to all the new Y7 players and their parents to NX-we have high hopes for another successful season with NX entering several tournaments and grades (dependent on numbers.)
Below are the dates for this season's school rugby so kids, please make sure you timetable these dates into your Student Diary so you are mega organised and are showing excellent time management skills!
Please stay on top of your schoolwork and make sure your behaviour is of the highest standard. Northcross expects all players and parents to represent themselves, your family, the school and the community in an exceptional manner. This season is going to be a very busy one with plenty of new and exciting tournaments on.
Finally, a reminder to all players and parents that the selection of players is very difficult given the quality of players and numbers here at Northcross. If you miss training/meetings without letting us know then that is one way we cut down the squads.
Please always listen to and read the Daily Notices and constantly read them each day! A player's position in any team will be determined by the coach of that team and where he/she feels the player best serves the TEAM. It is very important that players and parents are aware of this before making the decision to play. Please refer to and read our Sports Selection Policies and Code of Conduct Form at the bottom of this page.
Once teams are underway please keep an eye on the notices and the Team Reach App for trials/training days and times from your coach as these plans may change daily due to weather and other reasons.
A non-refundable deposit will be required at time of registration.
Once teams have been formed, the remainder of the balance will be placed on your child's Kindo account. The date for this payment is still to be confirmed but will be due at the beginning of Term 2.
Weigh-Ins
Weigh-ins
Weigh-ins will be on the day of our trial day and then anyone close to limits will need to be monitored. It is important that parents know that we are completely against ‘dieting’ to make weight grades so as the lads & ladies grow (as they do at this age) they may have to shift from one weight grade to another. It is important parents are aware and understand this.
Trials
Term 2 we will start trialing/selecting our squads for the season.

The teams you can trial for are as follows:
- NH Champs Zone Day U45kg Boys (15 aside)
- NH Champs Zone Day U55kg (15 aside)
- NH Champs Zone Day Open Weight (15 aside)
- NH Girls 7’s Zone Day (Open Weight and U57kg). This will depend on numbers.
- Auckland Champs 15 aside Zone Day (if we qualify.)
- Pre AIMS 7’s Rosmini Tournament (as part of the selection process for AIMS.)
- Pre AIMS 7’s Tournaments (Boys)
- Boys AIMS Open Weight 7’s Team
In 2024 we will again be sending a Boys Open Weight 7’s Teams to the NZCT AIMS Sporting Championships in Tauranga.

Selection process
We go through a very thorough selection process to finalise our teams and players will be placed in a team that our selectors have determined best suits their ability and experience. While inevitably there will be some movement of players, both up and down teams, it is important to remember that this movement can be a result of the following factors:
- New players who didn’t play last year can also create movement for other players, especially if they are placed in a higher team, resulting in other players moving down to a lower team.
- Individual development and growth over the summer months. If individual players have put in an extra effort and completed additional training over the holiday, this can definitely show during trials, resulting in higher performance on the court and some movement between teams.
We understand that some students will have questions regarding the trial process and eventually the team selection – if your child does, please ask them to see Anna in the sports office.
