NH Girls Football Tournament

Y7 Girls Team – 2nd NH

Northcross Year 7 Girls team has a solid day of football out in the winter sun! The day was littered with games as it was a 9 team round robin. NX drew the short straw and had a bye in the final round, so energy levels needed to be retained throughout the day without a break. The opening game was a tough opener against TNIS with some good saves by Hollie ensuring we achieved a 0 – 0 draw. The girls then backed that draw up with a win and a last minute equaliser, by Emmalene, from distance, to draw with MBIS. The rest of the day saw the girls win 4 out of the 5 games, with some great goals from Agnes, Odelia and Ngaomi. Supported well by some excellent defensive efforts from all the girls. This left the girls with a 2nd place finish for the day with a record of P8, W5, D2, L1. An excellent day of football from the girls in their first competition as a team!

In the Year 8 Girls Zone Day, NX had two teams representing. It was again a day full of fixtures for both teams. In pool play, NX Team 1 stormed through the pool, winning all 4 games and scoring 11 goals and conceding zero. This placed them top of the pool and into the ¼ finals. Team Two also had a positive start to the competition but were pipped to 2nd place on goal difference, which landed them in the Plate competition. The girls continued well into the plate and ended the day a very respectful 11th place out of 20 teams. Team One blitzed through the ¼ final with a comprehensive 4-0 victory and lined up against Northcote in the semi-final. Despite dominating the game, the NX girls couldn’t find the back of the net. Sadly, this continued in the penalties, and despite Emily’s best efforts to keep Northcote out, the game ended in defeat. Not to be down for long, the girls bounced back to come from behind and win 4-2 to take out 3rd place. Not the result the girls wanted, but a great day on the football field!
