Principal’s Message

Kia ora Parents and Whanau

As we move into the final weeks of term 4, we are pleased to see our students continuing to embrace the challenges of Intermediate school, continuing to make significant academic progress. Also their continued dedication and involvement in school wide cultural and sporting programmes is truly commendable. Please read about just some of the amazing accomplishments in the other posts in this issue of our NX Beacon.

We would like to inform you of the ongoing construction of four new classrooms at the back of our school. To accommodate with this build, all parking has been relocated to the main, Sartors Avenue entry. Please be aware that parking spaces are limited, and congestion may occur. We appreciate your understanding and patience during this period. The construction is expected to be completed by January 24th, 2024.

Celebrating Our Library
We would like to extend our sincere thanks and gratitude to Mrs Jacqui Spencer, our dedicated and hardworking librarian. Her tireless efforts has continued to transform our library into a vibrant hub of learning and creativity.
This year, over 20,000 library books have been issued, demonstrating the love of reading among our students. The library also serves as a safe and welcoming space for students to gather during intervals and lunchtimes. An acknowledgment and thank you to our school Student Librarians who tirelessly support Mrs Spencer throughout the busy school week. Whenever I am visiting the library, I always see these excellent students replacing books on shelves, issuing books, helping students find suitable books and helping in the covering and care of our books. Thank you for the many hours of support.

A Special Thank You to Bupa
We are delighted to announce that Bupa Care Services NZ (An international healthcare company), for the third year running, has generously awarded us a $10,000 grant to support our alternative learning programme, Hikoi Ki Taha, led by Mr Gary Wood. This funding has been an invaluable resource, allowing us to provide alternative learning programmes and opportunities to our students. A huge acknowledgment and thank you to Bupu for their recognising the importance of these programmes and the positive difference it is making to student lives.

We are incredibly proud of the following students (brother and sister) who have achieved outstanding results and recognition at a National level in the University of Melbourne Mathematical and Statistical Challenge, Julia and Robert Chen achieved the New Zealand Award for their outstanding investigation into Triangular Numbers. Congratulations to these talented individuals!

Thank you for your continued support of Northcross Intermediate School
